RE: URGENT CALL FOR THE NOMINATION OF A BUSINESS WOMAN WITH DISABILITIES TO THE KENYA NATIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY BOARD.

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) is a State Agency established through the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 14 of 2003. The mandate of the Council is to promote and protect the rights of persons with disability.

The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has requested the Council to nominate a suitable business Person with Disability, preferably a lady to sit on their national board.

The person should meet the following criteria;
  1. Should be a business woman with Disability
  2. Should be registered with the Council as a person with disability.
  3. Should have experience in business for at least 5 years.
  4. Should have a record of success in business over the years. 
  5. Should be articulate on the mandate of the Council and Disability Policies and legislation in Kenya
  6. Should demonstrate experience in advocacy and lobbying for issues affecting business persons with disability in Kenya                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Suitable Business Women with Disability are invited to submit their applications with supporting evidence on or before 4.00pm on 21st December 2016.

VACANCY
National Council for Persons with Disabilities invite applications from suitably qualified candidates with Disabilities for the position of Audit Committee in Uwezo Fund Oversight Board.
 
Background 
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities is a State Corporation which was established by an Act of Parliament, the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 14 of 2003.
The Council is charged with the responsibility of formulating and implementing policies that are geared towards mainstreaming of Persons with Disabilities issues to the national economy and to create an enabling environment in which Persons with Disabilities can operate effectively and efficiently in order to contribute positively to the National Economy.

Pursuant to Section 5(2)(f) of Public Finance Management (Uwezo Fund), Regulations,  2014 National Council for Persons with Disabilities wish to nominate a person with disability who will represent Persons with Disabilities as the Chairperson of Audit Committee in Uwezo Fund Oversight Board.

The Council invites applications from suitably qualified Kenyans with disabilities for nomination as the Chairperson of Audit Committee in Uwezo Fund Oversight Board.

Requirements for Nomination
For nomination as the Chairperson of Audit Committee in Uwezo Fund Oversight Board an applicant must have:
  • Hold Bachelor’s Degree from a university recognized in Kenya in either one or more of the following fields: Accounting, Auditing, Finance Management, or Any relevant discipline.
  • Preferably a member of  Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) 
Other Requirements 
  1. Have a good understanding of National Government Operations and financial management
  2. Meet the requirement of Chapter Six of the Constitution
  3. Has five years experience in aforementioned relevant field
  4. Be a registered member of National Council for Persons with Disabilities 
 
Terms of Appointment
Upon appointment by the Cabinet Secretary, the nominated person shall hold office for a period of three years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for one further term of three years.

  1. Qualified candidates should submit their application together with Curriculum Vitae; a copy of National Identity Card, National Council for Persons with Disabilities registration Card and certified copies of Academic Certificates, Testimonials and other Relevant supporting documents;
  2. Provide names of three(3) referees with mobile and e-mail contacts
  3. Clearly mark on the envelope and cover letter of application the post title.

Please note, A person shall not be qualified for nomination to Audit Committee in Uwezo Fund Oversight Board if he/she;
  • Is not a person with disability
  • Is a State Officer or Public Officer

YALI Transformational Learning Training


The YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa is part of President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative and one of the four regional hubs that provides transformational learning and improved leadership skills to young Africans. 

Located at Kenyatta University, in Nairobi, Kenya, the Center is more than a location for learning or a venue for collaboration; it is a philosophy, a forward-leaning culture of diversity that invites dreaming and thinking differently to define and realize one's potential. The program is inclusive, embracing future leaders regardless of religion, ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, or disability. Selected participants aged 18-35 years, drawn from 14 countries in East and Central Africa, engage in innovative leadership training across three tracks of study of (1) Business and Entrepreneurship, (2) Civic Leadership, and (3) Public Management.

The participants immerse themselves in a 12-week course of study, three weeks of residential learning on-site at the Center in Nairobi; eight weeks of virtual distance learning via technology from their home countries; and a final week on-site at the Center in Nairobi for wrap-up and presentations. The Center benefits the participants by linking them to a network of other young leaders from East Africa empowering them by enhancing their skills and confidence to lead; providing guidance from some of the best business and leadership minds in Africa; and opportunities for internships, among other benefits.


Applications for Cohort 14 & 15 are now open and the deadline is September 12th at 5:00pm East African Time. The dates for the Cohorts are listed below: -

• Cohort 14            -           January 16, 2017 to April 7, 2017

• Cohort 15            -           February 13, 2017 to April 28, 2017
